Every year, on the last Friday of September, a hundred or so Bordeaux researchers take part in an evening of discussion with the general public at Cap Sciences.

It is an opportunity to highlight research and researchers from Bordeaux, especially those involved in European projects.

The French project of the European Researchers' Night is coordinated by a national consortium steered by the University of Burgundy and the University of Franche-Comté. The consortium has responded to the European Commission's call for proposals since the very first event.

In Bordeaux, the Night is organised by Cap Sciences, the University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux Montaigne University and the CNRS.

Some of the activities to enjoy

  • Speed Searching: like Speed dating - members of the general public meet researchers instead of bachelors. Every 8 minutes, the public switches to another researcher.
  • Practical Corner: researchers let the general public discover their research through in a playful way by proposing experiments and demonstrations, hands-on or not.
  • Mini-Researchers' Corner – A researcher's case: 3 objects (or images of objects) are presented to the public who must guess the research topic: the starting point for discussion.
  • What's your thesis? Researchers have 3 minutes to present their thesis orally with a single image for support!
  • Word of Mouth: a researcher talks about his research with one person for 1 minute, that person then shares with another person (repeated about 15 times). The last one in the chain explains what s/he understood in front of the 15 participants, the researcher and the audience. Discussion to try to understand how the information was changed.
  • Radio Show: during a radio show hosted live at Cap Sciences by Radio Campus, researchers each talk a few minutes about their research. The event mainly seeks foreign, European researchers and/or doctoral students, if possible who speak French.
