With members from a wide range of academic fields, the purpose of this committee is to issue ethical opinions on certain human research projects. It enables applicants to obtain an ethical opinion that meets the requirements of funders and scientific journals.
The research teams at the University of Bordeaux carry out research on human subjects that do not fall within the remit of French Ethics Committees (Comités de protection des personnes - CPP). As they do not aim to “develop biological or medical knowledge”, it is not considered “research involving human subjects” (RIPH) within the meaning of the Jardé Law.
However, these research projects may require the opinion of an ethics committee, whether for funding or publication purposes, or in order to obtain a formal opinion on the ethical dimension of their project. The University of Bordeaux's Research Ethics Committee (CER-UB) is responsible for providing an opinion on these projects.
The main responsibilities of the CER-UB are to:

Any teacher-researcher or researcher working in any of the University of Bordeaux’s laboratories may refer a matter to the CER-UB. If the project or research thesis is being carried out by a PhD student or PhD graduate, the matter must be submitted to the CER-UB by a qualified supervisor (e.g. the thesis supervisor).
To refer a matter to the CER-UB, please complete the referral form and return it to the Research Ethics Committee with the necessary documents (research protocol, briefing note, etc.).
