To facilitate the funding of each project, several services and tools are available to support university lecturer-researchers and researchers working in laboratories managed by the University of Bordeaux.
As a researcher at the University of Bordeaux, for each project there are adapted support services or aids, whatever the stage of the project.
The SMSP (Proposals & Projects Support Office) from the Research and development department assists lecturer-researchers in setting up their research projects financed through external calls for proposals, then in the management of those projects once they have been financed. It is organised into two offices, each dedicated to supporting projects submitted to specific funding bodies.

The Europe / International Bureau provides support in the submission of projects for European and international funding. In particular, this includes the Horizon Europe framework programme (ERC grants of excellence, Marie S. Curie Actions, collaborative projects under pillars 2 & 3, etc.), Interreg, EDCTP, LIFE, Era-Net, JPI, etc.
The French National Funding unit, which assists in the submission of projects to the major French funding bodies (ANR, ADEME, Bpifrance, InCa, ANRS, ARS, Anses, OFB, etc.)
The Bureau also works with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, a major stakeholder at the regional level to support research and innovation via its various grants, the most well known being the ESR call for proposals. Over a hundred organisations, foundations and associations - particularly in the field of health research - also offer funding to support the scientific community's research work. A new portal, created at the initiative of major funding organisations, now brings together 6 main partners and their funding offers.
To back up the European teams of the University of Bordeaux's partner establishments, IdEx Bordeaux has made it possible to provide a financial support service: Soutien Europe aimed at encouraging lecturer-researchers and researchers to seek access to European or international funding. Access to the funding is open to coordinators of collaborative research and training projects and ERC applicants as well as any researcher or lecturer-researcher who wants to be trained and/or join a consortium as a partner. The application is submitted to a selection committee for validation on presentation of a request sent via the European Affairs officer of the applicant institution. Applications are processed on a rolling basis, with a response time of approximately one month.
The University of Bordeaux has developed a tool that monitors calls for projects and other funding for research: OPEN4RESEARCH. The tool provides access to a database that centralises up-to-date information on funding opportunities for international research, collaborative projects, grants, awards, internal and external mobility, etc.
Searches can be done by profile, topic and/or keywords. With over 7,000 sources of funding referenced and regularly updated, Open 4 Research is one of the most exhaustive databases. To log in, create an account with a "u-bordeaux.fr" email address.
