The 2023 RoboCup ended with the victory of Rhoban's football robots in the Humanoid Kid Size league, after several days of public success.
The 2023 edition of the RoboCup took place from July 4th to July 10th at the Bordeaux Exhibition Centre, after being postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. The entire national artificial intelligence and robotics ecosystem was obviously present at this major event, alongside teams from all over the world taking part in the competition. The 2,500 RoboCuppers came from 45 countries (49 including the online competitions). As a result, a highly international atmosphere reigned in the bays of the exhibition centre.
Competitions were organised for all age categories (junior and major leagues). From robots to assist people in their daily tasks to robots for industry or even for the world of agriculture with the Farming event, the diversity of fields represented testified to the advances in the robotics and artificial intelligence sector.
The public was particularly eager to attend the soccer leagues, with different teams of robots competing according to their type and size. Hopes were high in the Humanid Kid-Size league, thanks to the presence of the Rhoban team from the Bordeaux computer science research laboratory (LaBRI), four-time winners, but who had to surrender their title last year in Bangkok.
After a faultless run to the final, Rhoban once again faced the Japanese team CIT Brains for a rematch of the 2022 RoboCup, this time with the added benefit of a fully supportive home crowd. While the first half of the match was hotly contested, with the score level at 2-2, the rest of the match shifted firmly in Rhoban's favour, with the team scoring three more goals without conceding, for a suberb 5-2 victory and a fifth title to add to their trophy cabinet!

The 2023 RoboCup also welcomed a large number of young enthusiasts from the region's primary, secondary and high schools, who came to learn about robotics and computer programming.
Junior competitions were also on offer, with international teams competing in a wide range of disciplines.
