This international Master programme is dedicated to the training of international relations and global security policy analysts. Study options include the Middle East, the Caucasus, or the Asia-Pacific region.
Delivered jointly by the University of Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France) and Galatasaray University (Istanbul, Turkey), the Global Security and International Policy Analysis Master programme provides aspiring policy analysts with teachings on the theories of international relations, international political economy, area studies, security studies and methodology. The programme is also a valuable opportunity to create strong links between French and Turkish student communities, thus promoting not only academic exchanges but also solid linguistic, cultural and personal exchanges.
Upon completion of the programme, students are awarded two degrees: a Master in International relations from Galatasary University, and a Master in political science from the University of Bordeaux.
10 students per cohort may register for the programme: 5 from the University of Bordeaux and 5 from Galatasaray University. Students spend their first year in Istanbul, where they are taught international relations theories, and electives focusing on chosen cultural areas (the Middle-East, Europe, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus region, the Asia-Pacific region, Russia, or the USA). Then, they head to Bordeaux where course content focuses on global security issues and methodology in policy analysis (policy monitoring, policy briefs, case studies). The mandatory writing of a research thesis (with viva), and an optional internship (with report) concludes this second year.
Course content is taught entirely in French, except for language classes, and includes the following topics:
This unique Master programme in France enables students to study political science and international relations in the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, which is at the crossroads of Europe and the Middle East, thus developing students’ intercultural skills.
Upon completion, students are able to apply for international policy analysts jobs. The main career opportunities can be found in the following sectors:
Students can also apply for a doctorate and pursue a career in research and teaching in this field of studies.
