Since the start of the 2020 academic year, the University of Bordeaux has been experimenting with digital badges. Why? To acknowledge skills acquired by students, beyond their academic studies, in relation to their personal skills, achievements or involvement.
From a technical point of view, an Open Badge is a digital image where a certain amount of information, or metadata, is recorded, including:
Open Badges are personal and aimed at allowing students to express their identity and individuality. They acknowledge and certify a student's skills as well as highlight the cross-disciplinary initiatives set up by the university.
Eight badges are available to students who can earn one or several of them, based on their experience and achievements.
The badges earned are then stored in a badge bag that can be viewed online. The digital platform lets students post and share their badges on various professional social media and employment websites or even include them directly in their CVs.
The Open Badge is a totally secure, proof-based system, with the metadata stored in each badge attesting to the goals reached, the skills developed and its official status.
To earn one or several Open Badges available at the University of Bordeaux, log in to your ENT and go to the Moodle section dedicated to badges.
