Delphine Manceau is an instructional designer at the Bordeaux School of Public Health (ISPED). A constantly evolving profession that has allowed her to never get bored.
Right after graduating from ISIC (Institute of Information Science and Communication/Bordeaux-Montaigne University) with a speciality in multimedia, Delphine Manceau was hired at the Bordeaux School of Public Health (ISPED). "That was in 2001, when distance learning was just getting started. The job consisted of putting courses online, on a dedicated platform. They were for a University Diploma (DU) in epidemiology, the first distance-learning diploma offered by ISPED," Delphine Manceau recalled.
"Back then, the term used was 'mediatizer'… and the job didn't exist anywhere else!" Alone at the helm of the activity for seven years, the young woman is now part of the Distant Learning Division, on a 3-member team, proof that the activity has continued to grow. "At ISPED, we've been pioneers in e-learning, and we still enjoy innovating. The school's teachers are definitely a driving force in what we do; these services are for them. The Division being set up was a source of great satisfaction and one of my fondest professional memories!"
An instructional designer's main task is to assist and support the teachers in the distant aspect: putting courses and exams online and designing scenario-based learning on the Moodle educational platform, producing videos, tutorials, training in digital tools, providing technical assistance to participants during virtual classes and participating in the creation of MOOCs, etc.
"It's a very versatile and comprehensive job, that requires constant learning and curiosity about teaching methods and digital tools. It's a real team effort involving teachers, teaching assistants and IT specialists. The group interaction is really stimulating." Delphine Manceau explained.

""A huge machine, full of ramifications, which despite everything seems to always be in search of modernisation and renewal. Especially in terms of educational innovation. The Inov-Bx network, which brings together all the University of Bordeaux instructional designers, allows us to stay in touch with our counterparts, which is important. It is also a structure that strives to ensure student and staff comfort by taking on various renovation and improvement projects (buildings, state-of-the-art digital equipment, etc.).
I feel at home, I've been riding my bike to work with a smile for 20 years. ISPED has always been an entity where human values, mutual aid, conviviality and a sense of service are emphasised. For me, that's essential. For the future, I imagine the campus sites being even more interconnected and the courses even more personalised, which would give students more time to find their way."
